Background:

BPW federations and affiliated clubs are committed to achieving gender equality and equal pay for women in the workplace. BPW federations and clubs organize the Equal Pay Day annually highlighting the gender pay gap and persisting disparities between women and men in the labor market.

The International Federation of Business and Professional Women is an influential international network of business and professional women from about 100 countries in 5 continents with Consultative Status at ECOSOC/United Nations. Founded in 1930, BPW International develops the professional, leadership and business potential of women on all levels through our mentoring, networking, skill building and economic empowerment programs and projects around the world.

This event is organized by BPW International during CSW yearly Conference since eight years. With the first event in 2009, BPW International launched the international Equal Pay Day campaign with two countries joining, USA and Germany. Main aim of the campaign is to raise awareness on unequal pay and treatment of women in the labor market as well as to develop strategies on how to tackle these inequalities. The symbol of the campaign is the red bag showing the red numbers in women’s purses. Today, the Equal Pay Day is organized in more than 30 countries showing the development from an idea into a global campaign. The campaign will continue to call attention to the gender pay gap and underlying causes until the pay gap is completely closed.
